We very carefully assembled our First Aid Kit and its contents are set forth below.  Perhaps we over did it, because when all was said and done, our kit weighed in at about 2 - 3 pounds.....maybe we did not need the life jackets.  In any event, the extra weight is worth the piece of mind we have by knowing that our First Aid Kit can aptly deal with most of the situations that we may prospectively encounter (although we hope never to have to use it).  

Of course, a first aid kit without the knowledge of how to use it, or otherwise ho to react in a medical emergency, is of little value.  Accordingly, we both took a seven hour first aid course with Atlanta Scuba and Swim Academy.  The course that we took was the PADI Certified "Medic-First Aid" course.  Rob Arnold taught it and did a fabulous job.  For those of you that cannot seem to find the time to take such a course, remember 15 compressions and 2 breaths for adult CPR.

Here's what is in our kit and why:

Prescriptions: 
    Cipro--for intestinal turbulence (traveler's diarrhea) 
    Flagyl (aka Metronidazole)--for giardia 
    Zythromax--antibiotic for upper respiratory infections  
    Diamox (aka Acetazolamide)--for altitude sickness
    Ambien--sleeping pills    
    Doxycycline--anti-malarial for Kelly
    Diflucan--for infections that Kelly may get from taking Doxycycline
    Lariam--anti-malarial for Rich
    Aralen--anti-malarial for Rich (for use in areas where Lariam is less effective)
    8 syringes 
Mercury thermometer
Advil
Nyquil  (We are only days into our trip and Kelly has already used it)
Dayquil (ditto)
Immodium--for treating traveler's diarrhea before having to pull out the big Rx guns
Cera Lite--rehydration solution for serious bouts of sickness
Blister kit with mole skin
Neosporin antibiotic ointment for treating cuts and abrasions
Anti-fungal cream--to fight eg:  foot fungus in the tropics
Benadryl skin cream for rashes, etc.
Band-aides, bandages and gauze pads in various sizes
Medical tape
Disposable anti-bacterial towelettes
Vaseline--a lot of walking yields a lot of chafing
