After our glorious week in Marbella, we made our way back to Madrid, via the region known as Castill-La Mancha. The land of Cervantes' Don Quixote, this evocative terrain is doted with vineyards, windswept plains and hills, the occasional castle, and, yes, windmills, much like those jousted with by Quixote himself.
Just outside Toledo, the capital of Castilla-La Mancha, sits the quaint town of Consuegra. The principal attraction for the visitor is the large hill outside of town, upon which sits a castle and a dozen or so windmills.
Toledo is a wonderfully preserved medieval town, in which you can enjoy Christian, Muslim, and Jewish architecture. It is also home to wonderful museums and a great deal of the art of Spain's m
One of the culinary attractions of Toledo is cochinillo asado, or roast suckling pig. The poor little fellow is born, spends 21 glorious days suckling away at his mom's teat, and then, suddenly, into the oven he goes. If you look closely to the right of the photo, you may notice the little guy's foot. But he sure tasted good.
Return 2 Madrid with us as we enjoy Flamenco and food and say goodbye to the Willis family. We also get the chance to see good friends, John and Ullie. |
